How to make a no sew sock dog
Sock animals are cute, easy to make and a great craft activity for the kids.
I’m going to show you how to make a no sew sock dog to add to your collection!
So round up your kids, grab a few of those lonely socks and spend some time together crafting.
This tutorial can be used to make the basis for almost any sock animal. The difference is typically in the ears & face, so use your imagination!
Tools & Materials
- Socks!
- Stuffing
- Scissors
- Marker
- Rubber Bands*
* I used clear mini hair bobbles or snag bobbles. They’re ideal for making these no sew sock animals, however if young children have access I’d recommend replacing them with string, twine or strong thread once you’ve finished making your no sew sock dog.
Optional Materials
- Googly Eyes
- Glue
- Needle & thread
As you’ll see in the instructions & video, I use glue for the ears. You could leave them un-glued, use a different glue or even stitch them (although it wouldn’t be no-sew then), the same applies for the eyes and even nose.

Read the step-by-step instructions and photo’s or scroll on down to the instructional video!
Step 1 – Paws
Place your sock heel up, take a ball of stuffing and push to the toe. Use a band to tie off the ball to one side and slightly up from the end of the toe. Repeat for the other “bottom foot”.
Create the “upper feet” just below the heel of the sock in the same way, with a ball of stuffing and a band.
Step 2 – Body
Stuff the body to just above the upper feet, then add another large stuffing ball in the heel for the head. Create the neck with a band just above the upper feet.
Tie off the top of the sock with a band and pull it tight against the head
Step 3 – Ears
Flatten the excess sock and cut down the middle from the ankle hole to the band at the top of the head to form the ears.
Trim to the desired shape and either leave as is, or glue or sew into shape & place. Long, floppy ears or short, pointy ears – the choice is yours!
Step 4 – Draw
Draw on a cute little face & eyes, stick on googly eyes, you could even add paws and claws!
Optional – Replace Bands
If young children are likely to have access, I’d tying a strong thread, string or twine around each paw, neck & top then removing or cutting the bands away.
